This role involves managing day to day operations of the tax department, including tax compliance and tax planning functions. You will support the Director in developing best practices and promoting the overall tax strategy of RSA Global and our Canadian organizations. You will be engaged in tax planning, reporting, management and minimization activities, working with Finance and business colleagues internally and with external tax advisers and Authorities, often across national and international boundaries. You will add value through your technical expertise and your ability to apply this to RSA and deliver business and financial benefits from effective tax management.

What you will achieve in this role:
• Maintaining current knowledge of tax laws in Canada and partnering with the business to ensure that the company is in compliance; • Keeping the Director of Tax abreast of the current tax situation, recommending and following through on agreed actions that will optimize the company’s tax position and/or cashflow• Contributing to and/or operating within RSA global tax policy and process framework to ensure timely reporting, effective control and good practice• Ensuring tax compliance for the relevant business or form of taxation including the submission of accurate and timely returns, including both income tax and indirect tax returns, as well as input to annual reports etc• Leading or contributing to the management and maintenance of strong, positive relationships with external advisers and/or Tax Authorities• Leading or contributing to the development of analytical tools and techniques to support and enable complex tax modeling and forecasting• Contributing to a wide variety of projects and initiatives i.e. corporate structuring, mergers, disposals, etc.• Managing regular ad hoc research requests concerning premium tax, capital tax, commodity tax, transfer pricing issues, international taxation and payroll/HR issues• Communicating general tax principles to create awareness, recognize risk, and realize opportunities for improvement across the business• Developing or recommending action to raise standards and improve operational effectiveness and consistency through process, technology and/or people capability development
What you bring to this role:
• Minimum 1 to 2 years of industry experience and 5 years of progressive tax experience;• A University degree in a related discipline as well as completion of Parts I & II of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course;• A Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) designation required;• Ability to openly communicate with the business to obtain information required and the ability to transfer key learnings back to the business to improve quality & timelines in the future;• Above-average interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and facilitation) and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization;• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate colleagues, teams and projects;• Willingness to work together with employees across the organization to achieve shared goals as well as the ability to put team and organizational needs above their own;• Capability and willingness to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment;• A high level of comfort and demonstrated experience with technology and software, including the full Microsoft suite; Lotus Notes; TaxnetPro research databases; and TaxPrep compliance software. • A working knowledge of advanced accounting systems (HUON/Khalix) and reporting packages (Star3) is a definite asset.
