Position Overview:

As a Technical Underwriter, Automated Underwriting, Personal Insurance one of the key strategic deliverable's of the Modernized Web Business is improving policy flow-through while maintaining underwriting quality. The externalization, automation, and advancement of the underwriting environment is required. This component within Modernized Web Business is referred to as Underwriting Automation and Sophistication (UAS). We require a technical Underwriter to complete work on externalizing Underwriting rules within the RSA rules engine, FICO Blaze. Work will include rule authoring, rule testing, loading and analyzing as part of JUVO/MWB implementation, with ongoing modelling, rule maintenance, and flow-through management following completion of the project.

What you will achieve in this role:

Specific business critical tasks to be performed by this position include:

• Develop formatted underwriting logic (e.g. if then else) for implementation into FICO Blaze, with the UAS team along with input from the FICO team
• Work with FICO to mitigate any conflicts or constraints among the rule set
• Simulate transaction runs to uncover gaps to fulfilling the 95% target
• Ensure new underwriting rules and 2017 actions are continually integrated into the UAS workstream.

What you bring to this role:

• 15+ years as a Senior Underwriter
• Significant insurance underwriting experience, with direct, hands on experience underwriting both home and auto.
• Confident decision making skills ability, with a firm understanding of the underwriting practise
• Excellent, detailed knowledge of insurance policies and ability to relate policy provisions to loss exposures
• Proven numeracy and statistical skills
• Ability to determine root causes, correlation, causation and the ability to suggest underwriting changes to improve how the portal functions.
• Experience using Broker Portals and Broker Management system, with a clear understanding of how Automated Underwriting works
• Ability to be trained on the RSA Rules Engine, including rule authoring, rules testing, the tools analytical functionality
• Ability to produce fully formed data extract using the rules engine built in tool suite, which will include producing properly formed queries to support business inquiry
• Ability to establish rules management procedures, including time based examination on things like rules success (what rules are firing, what rules are not firing, etc.), summarize findings, and discuss with key UW resources what actions should be taken based on findings
• Additional hands-on experience with “smart systems”, analytical tools and statistical packages (spreadsheets, SPSS, databases etc)
• Ability to review underwriting changes as they are prepared for filings, and translate them into well formed rules within the rules engine
• Ability to follow a structures rule review process, including executing positive and negative test cases for each rule
• Ability to bring groups to consensus, as well as to drive outstanding work items to conclusion through discussions and meetings.
• Ability to work with all levels within the organization.
• Experience presenting to the executive team.

Additional qualifications
• Insurance diploma or certification
• BS in Business Administration, Finance or related field
• Multi province underwriting experience would be an asset
• Must have a methodical, detail oriented, underwriting focused mind-set
• Proficient in MS Office products
