Position Overview:

The Claims Operations Data Analyst roles is responsible for providing insights and trends across to the Head Office Claims department. Reporting to the Director, Head Office Claims, the incumbent will be tasked with gathering, interpreting, analyzing and reporting on trends. This role requires an individual who is well versed across multiple business lines and has a wide breadth and depth of Claims knowledge. This is a highly technical and analytical role which requires an individual to be able to assess, question and make recommendations using their experience and expertise. This incumbent will be considered as a SME within Head Office Claims.

What you will achieve in this role

• Focus on building analytics methodologies that translate data (trends/observations) into compelling and actionable insights to further improve operational efficiency (identify, analyze and interpret trend/patterns in data sets).
• Supports reporting and analysis on all projects for department initiatives, including developing reporting processes to ensure timely delivery of daily, weekly, monthly, annual and a hoc reporting to management.
• Obtain and assemble pipeline data for monthly actuarial reporting, including gross and net figures for distribution to executives
• Ownership of large loss forum, including quality review of submissions and reporting of results. This requires deep technical understanding of large claims to identify type of claim, scope with the ability to analyse/ question details. Identify trends and exceptions for escalation to senior leadership team. Ensure adherence to reinsurance reporting requirements.
• Manage trial/litigation log and report on results and trends, including financial benefit related to “fair but firm” approach
• Assists in new implementation project(s) related to various claims initiatives, including, but not limited, to the preparation of narrative summaries, charts, tables, graphs, or other visual aids to be used in presentations.
• Accurate tracking of potential Large Loss and CAT pipeline for reporting. Ability to consolidate information in a concise manner to be shared with leaders (Executives, and Group).
• Responsible for governance and control reporting within Large and Complex claims team.
• Work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of a team.
• Liaise with other departments such as legal, actuarial and underwriting.
• Other duties as assigned

What you bring to this role

• Undergraduate degree and CIP designation ideal
• Strong insurance industry knowledge, with 4 to 6 years technical claims experience (Commercial Property, General Liability, or Reinsurance), Risk manager OR equivalent relevant work experience in data analysis and information reporting.
• Exposure to, and an understanding of, reinsurance is considered an asset.
• Highly adept at data analysis with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Solid understanding of reinsurance contracts, including XOL treaties, proportional FAC, Catastrophe treaties and aggregate structures
• Exposure to Catastrophe plans, including direct management of different types of catastrophe files
• Knowledge of financial and operational controls and ability to identify and report on gaps, risks and trends.
• Ability to identify inaccuracies and potential oversights in large loss forms, which requires the knowledge of large losses across all Lines of Business
• Demonstrated experience with PowerPoint and other software applications used in creation of presentations and visual aids.
• Strong knowledge of Guidewire Claims Centre is an asset.
