Position Overview:

In this 2+ year contract position, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing accounting and reporting guidance to the business and management on how to interpret accounting and regulatory policy related to insurance contracts and assist in the successful implementation of the new IFRS 17 accounting standard.

What you will achieve in this role

• Support the analysis, interpretation and understanding of the requirements of IFRS 17 and the impact on the business.
• Prepare technical papers on the key elements of the accounting requirement
• Develop draft financial statement disclosures and processes for completing the required disclosures
• Prepare pro-forma financial statements and reconciliation between IFRS 4 and IFRS 17 bases
• Assess capital and regulatory reporting implications related to accounting policy decisions
• Develop new financial reporting and operational processes to comply with the new requirements
• Design and develop new reporting templates and reports as required
• Review the chart of accounts and general ledger structure and recommend changes to support the various financial and statutory reporting requirements
• Support the system implementation of IFRS 17 engine and reinsurance system
• Provide guidance and advisory services to internal stakeholders
• Work closely with business partners, actuarial and IT teams, as well as the Group to ensure alignment across all work streams
• Liaise with external auditors

What you bring to this role

• Minimum 4 years of experience in an accounting/financial reporting/audit role
• Accounting designation, combined with deep understanding of IFRS and financial services accounting, particularly P&C insurance
• Awareness of federal and provincial regulatory environment for insurance
• Ability to multi-task in a face pace environment against challenging timelines and workload pressures
• Experience in researching, assessing and implementing accounting policies and guidance
• Sound financial reporting and control skills
• Superior problem solving and analytical skills.
• Effective documentation and communication skills.
• Organizational skills; able to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
• Self-starter and effective team player.
