Position Overview:

The Team Lead / Manager, Actuarial Personal Lines Pricing, Western Canada will champion continuously advancing the actuarial pricing efforts in personal lines to help grow our business profitably in the Western Canada. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Personal Lines Pricing, Western Canada. You and your team will enhance our personal lines pricing capabilities to accelerate our ability to become ‘best-in-class’ in pricing our personal lines products in Canada.

What you will achieve in this role

• Update pricing assumptions used in rate indications, produce indicated overall rate level changes, and prepare rate filings;
• Continuously assess Company’s rating plans to identify gaps and propose changes to improve pricing sophistication;
• Contribute to proposals for new and innovative approaches for pricing, underwriting, and product design based on statistical analyses, a good understanding of P&C insurance products, and awareness of RSA business strategy;
• Create new and improve existing analytical tools and models;
• Communicate complex technical models and results to colleagues in the business and provide recommendations;
• Mentor team members and consistently seek to raise standards and expertise across the Pricing COE;
• Collaborate with the team by providing guidance and training on implications and interpretation;
• Increase business and technical knowledge through frequent liaison with colleagues in the business and actuaries in other units;
• Seek insight on a continuous basis about industry trends, competitive activities, innovation, and current best practice with respect to pricing and underwriting initiatives and incorporate such knowledge, as appropriate, into recommendations for the business;
• Keep current about relevant data sources and relevant research conducted in Canada and internationally.
• Review and approve actuarial and statistical work conducted by others;
• Maintain responsibility for the appropriateness of documentation regarding pricing processes and analyses;
• Maintain effective working relationships with information suppliers and users/customers.

What you bring to this role

• University degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related field;
• Minimum three years of relevant experience;
• Insurance knowledge and experience (P&C industry is preferred);
• Strong technical knowledge in pricing and/or predictive modelling;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels;
• Excellent computer skills (including Microsoft Office), programming proficiency (e.g., SAS, VBA, SQL) and pricing models (Emblem, Radar)
• Ability and willingness to maintain knowledge and skills through efforts during and outside of work hours with an emphasis on continuous learning about new technical developments as well as leadership techniques;
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills;
• Works effectively in a team environment; and
• Strong attention to detail; can analyze data and review analysis from others and identify and resolve basic data issues.
