Position Overview:

RSA Canada is seeking professional liability and CGL claims examiners to join our Head Office Claims team. In this important client-facing role, you are managing professional liability, fidelity and CGL claims from their inception to end. What you will achieve in this role

• You will analyse policy wordings and determine the applicability of coverage for professional liability and CGL claims (i.e. Errors & Omissions, Fidelity and CGL;
• Your strong investigative skills will be required in addition to your superior ability to analyse, negotiate and resolve professional liability and CGL claims;
• As part of this role you will engage and manage external counsel, independent adjusters, accountants and other experts;
• Leveraging your experience, you will participate in negotiations, mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolutions
• You will set appropriate reserves on each of your claims in accordance with RSA’s Claims Guidelines;
• As part of our Customer Obsessed culture, you will exemplify our brand expectations by keeping your commitments and responding to policyholder and broker inquiries;
• As you continue to build strong relationships internally and externally, you will also provide support to our underwriting team with business development initiatives, including broker and client meetings, presentations and regular communication;
• As a subject matter expert, act as a resource for junior examiners and assist with audits of external counsel, adjusters and clients;
• Support underwriting with policy wording development and policy interpretation;
• Assist with audits of external counsel, adjusters and clients
• As part of the national Head Office team, you will be an active contributor to national team meetings, projects and goals and develop the ability to work effectively with team members located across Canada.

What you bring to this role

• LLB and member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
• 4+ years of industry-side experience as a professional liability and casualty claims examiner, either from an insurance company or an adjusting firm; and/or private practice insurance defence/coverage experience
• You have a demonstrated ability to provide real-time solutions in a fast paced environment
• You are able to work independently on your files but are also a team player
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• You are a multi-tasker with an ability to effectively handle multiple claims and competing demands
• You have an interest in mentoring and coaching junior examiners
