Position Overview:

This is an exciting role within the Economic Capital team located in Toronto that delivers and consistently improves RSA Canada's capital modelling, DCAT and relevant parts of the Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA).

The team is responsible for monitoring, assessing and forecasting RSA Canada’s economic capital position in collaboration with RSA Group to ensure we meet both local Canadian and Group regulatory and rating agency requirements while remaining fit-for-purpose within the business.

The Senior Analyst/Team Lead will participate in improving the Solvency II capital model in terms of processes, methods, and statistical modelling through a strong interest in programming. S/he will add value through his/her ability to analyze and communicate implications of capital modelling and further identify opportunities to improve processes and tools for the economic capital model and recognizing new opportunities for model use in the business. As part of the job s/he is expected to have strong programming and database skills.

What you will achieve in this role

• Developing processes and suggesting improvements for the economic capital model
• Managing model change initiatives
• Improving model governance through automation and simplification of processes
• Leading or contributing to the development of analytical tools and techniques to support and enable capital modelling and forecasting for a range of regulatory and business purposes
• Helping to build a closer working relationship with other capital modelling teams around the Group
• Conducting quarterly capital analyses to ensure solvency, continued regulatory capital compliance and/or optimize the capital position for business purposes
• Producing timely and accurate outputs for internal customers, regulatory authorities (e.g., OSFI, AMF), rating agencies, and other external bodies as required
• Contributing to the Group’s economic capital capability including its regulatory reporting of economic capital
• Contributing to the production of RSA Canada's annual ORSA Report and Capital Report
• Contributing to the production of RSA Canada’s annual DCAT submission to OSFI
• Engaging with finance and the business to improve process involving stakeholders

This job will typically be measured by:

• Improvements in accuracy and reliability of tools and processes within the team
• Delivery of capital efficiencies from regulatory and rating agency perspectives
• Compliance with all relevant reporting deadlines (Group, regulatory, and rating agency) as well as compliance with:
- Regulatory requirements
- Professional accounting and actuarial standards
- RSA protocols and procedures
• Feedback from the Chief Actuary, Leader of Economic Capital and internal customers on key outputs such as:
- Consistent on-time delivery
- Reliability and efficiency of processes
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Quality and consistency of interpretation and insight
- Presentation of information (oral, written and visual)

What you bring to this role

• Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with 4-5+ years' experience of working in a capital modelling or pricing/reserving function
• 1 year experience leading projects in a matrix environment
• People leadership experience is an asset
• Proven success with modelling, analysis, and interpretation of complex financial information in a commercial context
• Strong background and knowledge of both Solvency II requirements and Canadian statutory requirements
• Stochastic modelling experience is an asset
• Strong communication and critical thinking skills
• Responsive and client-focused
