Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated, driven Commercial Underwriting professional. As a Property and Casualty Underwriter SME, you will work in a high volume environment ensuring that RSA risk appetite is reflected in the retention of profitable business by providing excellence in underwriting risks to maintain a profitable book and ensuring that RSA brokers receive best in class service.

What you will achieve in this role

• Underwrite low to medium complexity renewals in the SME team and evaluate risk and select appropriate terms, conditions and pricing, being mindful of top and bottom line considerations. Our renewal portfolio varies widely. You would have the opportunity to work on accounts from a variety of business segments including, but not limited to, Business & Professional Services, Construction, Retail, Realty, Manufacturing and Wholesale Trade.
• Contribute to an efficient environment by practicing lean methodology, strong collaboration and meeting/exceeding daily KPIs.
• Develop and manage broker relationships via daily written and verbal correspondence. Ensure that every contact with a broker is positive and supports RSA’s SME value proposition and provide training using a variety of methods.
• Be agile, shifting gears as the business needs shift.
• Foster a solutions oriented environment, forging a path to “yes” whenever possible.
• Respond to broker telephone calls and emails, including broker referrals, accommodations and queries within your underwriting license.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of work processes and procedures by seeking out areas of process improvement and create positive change
• Provide your Leader and team mates with daily progress reports via daily huddles and whiteboards.
• You are a true team player, you collaborate well with others, share your knowledge, enjoy coaching and mentoring others and you always step in to lend a hand. You value collective success.
• You know the importance of fostering strong relationships and identify opportunities to pick up the phone and reach your customer to work together to identify an agreeable solution.

What you bring to this role

• Minimum 1 year Commercial Insurance Underwriting experience.
• Underwriting knowledge and experience in underwriting.
• Ability to work in a shift environment, flexible to work between 7am – 7pm.
• Eagerness to learn and develop underwriting knowledge beyond current skillset.
• Superior customer service and sales skills.
• Active participation in CIP program or willingness to enroll.
• Positive attitude toward change and demonstrated ability to adjust to changing environments, expectations, etc.
• Displays initiative and ability to solve problems in a timely manner.
• Post-Secondary Degree, diploma or equivalency in related field.
