Position Overview:

We are looking for a very motivated person to take on the role of Technical Consultant, SME, supporting the Quebec region.
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, the successful candidate will play an essential role in the technical development of commercial underwriting teams through formal formal and informal training sessions and coaching. He or she will contribute to establishing and implementing ways to improve employees’ technical skills to ensure that we’re meeting the expectations of our commercial sectors.

What you will achieve in this role

The incumbent will be responsible for team participation and for creating an environment that’s conducive to learning, collaboration and the sharing of ideas. Other tasks in scope include:

• Offer training, mentoring and technical advice to support the growth and development of our underwriters;

• Carry out checks on files, according to requirements, and share results with the management team to determine training needs and corrective actions to be taken;
• Work together with underwriters and the Head Office on more complex files;
• Work in close collaboration with the Head Office team and the local management team to put in place various initiatives for sound portfolio management and to ensure compliance with governance rules;
• Study portfolios to identify trends and appropriate actions to be taken;
• Analyze the competition and their products, particularly during special projects and the implementation of new products.

What you bring to this role

• Proven leadership ability – manage, guide and develop a group of underwriters with varying levels of competence
• Demonstrated ability to develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives in terms of quality, sound underwriting processes and customer service
• Autonomy, with excellent organizational, time management and project management skills, and the ability to coordinate several things at once
• Demonstrated skill for communicating and influencing, as well as for assessing and resolving problems
• College diploma (DCS) in insurance and financial services or other programs
• Solid technical skills in commercial insurance underwriting (P&C)
• Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial insurance
• CIP or FCIP qualification an asset
