Position Overview:

Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards, located at our 18 York office, the Director, Total Rewards has responsibility for all aspects of compensation, benefits, pension, recognition and wellness programs for the Company. The successful incumbent will lead the design, implementation and communication of all rewards programs that align and support the strategy of the business. This role also leads the development of processes that are effective and that drive results within the organization.

What you will achieve in this role

• Participate in the development of the People Development strategy; specifically with respect to compensation, benefits and pension programs. Maintain the reward strategy, framework and plan as part of the 3 Year People Development strategy
• Develop, implement and manage programs relating to recognition and wellbeing to ensure they support the strategy of the business, the needs of our people and take in to account market best practice
• Manage the job evaluation process and ensure it is equitable and supports the needs of the business
• Oversee all market benchmarking
• Oversee the annual merit and incentive program and ensure it is managed in an efficient way that supports the wider reward strategy
• Partner with the HR Business Partners and Communication teams to ensure leaders and employees are well informed about the reward framework including the value of the framework and any changes that are made
• Recommend, develop and implement total rewards programs and frameworks that focus on the total value of the employment package while reinforcing a performance culture across all parts of RSA Canada
• Develop annual objectives for total rewards function
• Manage all 3rd party compensation and benefit suppliers and vendors to ensure they are meeting the needs of the business.
• Support the roll out of Corporate (UK Head Office) initiatives in Canada – e.g., top 50; Performance Share and executive compensation programs
• Ensure the responsibilities delegated by the Canadian Board of Directors to the Pension Committee, are fulfilled and reporting to the Board takes place
• Oversee the procedures for ensuring that all relevant governance, audit and business risk requirements related to Total Rewards are met
• Work with all parts of the HR team as total rewards expert and coach and support the wider team to develop their own expertise
• Conduct due diligence activities related to mergers and acquisitions
• Proactively address process issues to ensure Total Reward programs are cost effective and value added
• Participate in Group Reward team discussions to influence direction for overall organization
• Provide coaching and leadership to your team of rewards professionals; including work assignment; coaching, performance management

What you bring to this role

• Extensive total rewards experience within a similar role, size and scope
• Minimum of 5 years’ of proven leadership experience
• University degree in either business or a related discipline education
• Excellent project management and process improvement skills
• Excellent communication skills – written and presentation to communicate complex reward concepts in user friendly language; to influence buy-in to potential programs
• Vendor management skills – relationships with various third parties, such as pension actuary, benefit service provider, payroll provider to address escalated service issues
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage business in program implementation or policy changes
• Excellent excel skills required to calculate financial impacts related to total rewards. Excellent math skills to understand statistical relationships.
• Research trends in total rewards and conduct data analytics to ensure the organization offers competitive, market-driven programs
• Consulting skills to value added solutions to business challenges and opportunities focusing on total rewards that address the organization’s immediate need and longer term strategic goals
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex, initiatives simultaneously in a fast paced rapidly changing work environment
